Delivering digital readiness at mission speed for the UK MoD

When threats move fast, decisions can't wait. Legacy systems and the growing complexity of modern threats led the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to rethink its digital foundations so it can accelerate operations without sacrificing security or resilience. Working with partners including DXC, the MoD is advancing a secure backbone, connecting sensors, systems, and decision-makers in near real time, enabling faster response cycles, higher-confidence decisions, and a defence ecosystem built to evolve at mission speed.

“One of the biggest measures of success is the digital ecosystem we’re building across defence — bringing together military, civilian, and industry expertise in a different way than before. By expanding the role of specialist partners and SMEs, and by embedding a culture of continuous learning and improvement, we’re creating capabilities that can evolve at the pace the mission demands. DXC has demonstrated what that looks like in practice.”

Building the digital backbone for decision advantage

In the words of Charlie Forte, Director General, Chief Digital, and Information Officer at UK Ministry of Defence, modern operations are increasingly “software and data defined.” The goal is to connect “any sensor to any effector to any decision maker” in near real time — helping turn information into coordinated action faster and with greater precision.

DXC is one of the partners supporting this transformation by bringing engineering expertise, delivery scale, and operational focus to complex modernization efforts. The partnership is built around shared objectives, continuous collaboration, and the ability to adapt quickly as mission needs evolve.

What changes when seconds are saved

  • Faster response cycles: Strengthening the digital backbone helps shorten the time from signal to decisions supporting operations where seconds matter.
  • Higher confidence decisions: Connected data and clearer information flows reduce ambiguity and improve decision quality under pressure.
  • Real-time coordination: Better connectivity across systems and teams support coordinated action from the edge to leadership.
  • Continuous improvement at mission speed: Iterative delivery and day-to-day learning help the MOD adapt as priorities and threats evolve.

Keeping pace with what comes next

Defence priorities and technologies will keep evolving. The MoD is continuing to strengthen the digital backbone so it can scale new capabilities, integrate emerging technologies, and apply data and AI in defence operations where they can create the greatest operational advantage.

DXC remains focused on helping sustain delivery momentum, expand specialist skills in step with MoD needs, and support the people behind the mission every day.
