DXC Technology and Origin Foundation Support Remote Cherbourg School through Digital and Energy Literacy

On 20 August, the Origin Foundation and DXC Technology’s Digital Futures Program collaborated to support the students at Cherbourg State School in Queensland, teaching students about renewable energy and donating refurbished laptops for their education needs.

This marks the third year of partnership between Origin and DXC’s Digital Futures Program; with donation events integrating the Origin Foundation’s SolarBuddy STEM education program and DXC’s First Nations Program.

Cherbourg draws students from across Queensland, and computers are an important part of their studies. Tracy Flavel, Principal of the school, said that technology availability was a challenge - there are never enough devices to meet everybody’s needs.

“We really appreciate the Origin Foundation and DXC Technology supporting our community. These laptops will make a huge difference to the availability of technology in our school. As our existing devices age, without new ones coming in, we can’t adequately support digital education,” said Ms Flavel.

“Ensuring First Nations students and those in regional or remote areas have the opportunity to thrive in the classroom is incredibly important to us,” said Michelle Zahra, Head of the Origin Foundation. “Indigenous Australians are the holders of the first science knowledge of Australia, and so it was fantastic to see the year 5 and 6 students from Cherbourg State School very engaged in STEM learning and see how it can lead to future career pathways.”

DXC, as a provider of critical IT services to Origin, is proud to collaborate on Reconciliation actions with real-world outcomes for First Nations peoples, communities and businesses.

“DXC has substantial operations in Queensland, and as part of DXC’s values, we support communities in which we live and operate in. This donation and our partnership with Origin Energy and the Origin Energy Foundation, is a testament to what long-term collaboration can achieve. Together, we’re investing in the digital empowerment of First Nations students in Cherbourg. By providing access to tools and training, we’re helping unlock opportunities for education, and self-determination on Country,” said Stuart Meadley, Digital Futures and First Nations Program Lead, DXC Technology.
