Features

DXC’s Modernization Director tooling and processes enable migration planning and execution at scale, while ensuring all details are addressed. Our migration solutions and methodology are the result of our Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) approach that facilitates the planning and execution of migration and modernization in optimized waves — applying the specific migration/modernization treatment required to achieve the desired outcome, while ensuring minimal impact to ongoing business operations.

This optimized wave-based execution enables us to leverage squads of experts in the specific technologies involved in each wave. DXC’s dynamic-squad-formation model includes core squad members, as well as specialists who are brought onboard as needed, all working together to ensure the right technology is applied to effectively execute the wave at the highest degree of automation, with predictable, repeatable best-practice outcomes at the lowest cost.

Because of the complexity of application software, companies require a mature and sophisticated approach for migration to modern cloud environments. DXC handles this with a data-driven analysis service providing:

  • A 360º view of every application covering viability, suitability and continual assessment of the IT estate to manage compliance and risk
  • A solid base of information from which to plan and execute modernization
  • Continual assessment of the estate to drive a comprehensive modernization program in an ever-changing IT environment

Create application efficiencies and scale leveraging this aspect of our migration treatment. DXC has treated 2 billion lines of code through our application transformation factories. We provide

  • Automated migration planning
  • Automated factory line installation
  • Agile lifecycle management
  • DevOps automation
  • Workflow automation
  • Real-time dashboards
  • Lean metrics-driven processes
  • Easy integration

Set up your secure, scalable and well-organized environment, including best practices, tools and architecture, to host your applications.

DXC supports landing zones in AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud and Red Hat OpenShift, as well as our own. As an example, Talent, a leading provider of critical infrastructure in the UK and Ireland, tapped into DXC Technology’s expertise to move its Oracle ERP applications to Oracle Cloud and all other applications to Microsoft Azure. The company has said it intends to use the features that are now available in public cloud to modernize and further secure its applications.

Who can benefit

Consider DXC Cloud Migration Services for your business if:

  • You lead IT in a large global enterprise — particularly in the financial services, public sector, automotive, manufacturing, technology, media or telecom industry — with a complex IT estate that requires cloud optimization, better security and cost take-out.
  • You have been trying to migrate out of your data centers for years, but have made little progress — for reasons ranging from a lack of in-house skills, to dealing with legacy data that is not well-structured for cloud systems, to bandwidth limitations for transferring high volumes of data.
  • You have end-of-service life (EoSL) hardware and software that is leaving you exposed to service disruption or ransomware attacks in your current environment.
  • You are struggling with how to assure business continuity during the migration so that employees maintain access to the applications and data they need.

Commonly asked questions about DXC Cloud Migration Services

Our dynamic-squad-formation is enabled by a set of best-practice templates that enable delivery of consistent artifacts throughout the process, optimizing each squad’s execution, enabling quick ramp-up of new squad members and supporting ease of communication to each application business team that is engaged.

It takes a very different mindset and skillset to perform cloud migrations and transformations than it does to perform IT operations. In fact, a main reason that migrations fail is that IT attempts to run them as their operations programs are run, using IT operations resources.

DXC understands how to build an effective cloud migration strategy, drawing on our extensive application, database, and infrastructure experience and continually evolving best-practices into integrated processes and tools. We approach our work understanding what is often misunderstood by IT operations — for example, that you need to get business owners’ buy-in and commitment; that you must determine whether existing Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data is current and complete to support migration planning and execution; and that you have to understand and manage dependencies on landing-zone provisioning, network connectivity, business freeze-periods, third-party participation, business testing and so on. The DXC Service Delivery Program provides a wide array of capabilities and draws on our technical know-how for delivering services to enterprises.

Moving a business-critical application to the cloud takes careful planning, technical know-how and hard work — especially when the timeline to complete is tight. For example, Prometric, one of the world’s leading providers of testing and assessment solutions, needed to move a mission-critical mainframe application to cloud within six months, with little to no downtime, and have the application seamlessly replicate its previous capabilities and functionality. DXC completed the migration with three weeks to spare.

The opportunities to lower costs are many. You can reduce or eliminate data center costs such as buying hardware, leasing space and reducing operations staff. You can consolidate data centers or exit them entirely. You can de-provision resources on demand, and reduce operational cost by improving IT resource utilization. You also can reduce tech debt by moving applications and databases to current and supported platforms.

DXC delivers migrations with an industry-leading 99.84% success rate (only one rollback per 625 migrations).
