We recognise that our people are our greatest asset and are proud that we continue to expand the number of DXC Armed Forces veterans, reservists, and Adult Cadet Volunteers across our workforce.
The DXC Armed Forces Network (AFN) welcomes all reservists, veterans, and Adult Cadet Instructors, as well as employees of all backgrounds who wish to uphold the values of the Armed Forces Covenant by supporting, advocating, and growing the DXC Armed Forces community.
Support
DXC are leaders at fostering a forces-friendly ethos. As a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold award holder we understand the value military skills bring to the workplace.
DXC is proud to have renewed its Gold ERS award status in the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme in 2022. This scheme encompasses awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant. To mark the occasion, DXC were presented with the award at Old Trafford Football Ground, during a match day hosted by the company. The renewed pledges demonstrate DXCs’ continued commitment to support those serving, who have served and their families.
Meet our Executive Sponsor
“DXC is committed to supporting our Armed Forces Community which encompasses our military veterans and reservists as well as our Cadet Adult Volunteers. Ensuring that we can enable our people to pursue these activities and achieve a work/voluntary life balance is a core element of that commitment, and we continue to expand in this space thanks to the outstanding efforts of Armed Forces Network. ‘Serve to Lead’ remains my driving force – even 17 years after leaving the Army. It centres me around ‘purpose’ – the real reason that delivering excellence is so important to our teams and our clients – and it focuses me on creating the team ethos – leading 6,000 amazing people to all drive together to ‘outperform, outshine, out imagine’. My time served was my proudest moment and an enduring source of inspiration.”

Meet our Armed Forces Community
Joe Docherty, a former British Army warrant officer, Class 1 and foreman of signals joined DXC Technology in 2008 after a successful 22 years of Army service. His day job now is part of the DXC Global Networks team. In his spare time (2 evenings per week and numerous weekends) he serves as an Adult Cadet Volunteer with 439 (Linlithgow) Squadron RAF air cadets. Joe has utilised his skills as a Duke of Edinburgh award scheme assessor and Skill at Arms Instructor to train cadets (between the ages of 15-17) in the classroom, on the firing ranges and in the field. Last month, along with another 120 Adult Cadet Volunteer Instructors, Joe ran the shooting activity at the annual National Shooting Competition at Bisley for the Inter-Service Cadet Rifle meeting. This year his cadet unit came 3rd within the RAF air cadets and 5th overall for all cadet units in the UK.
DXC regularly join the Cumbrian Challenge, an annual fundraising event run by Walking with the Wounded, a leading UK military charity aiding veterans. The charity delivers tailored employment, mental health and wellbeing support, along with care coordination for veterans navigating post-military challenges. The Cumbrian Challenge offers a platform for individuals and businesses to push their limits in the Lake District mountains, raising funds to rekindle veterans' purpose and foster independence. In 2023, 116 DXC employees participated, raising an impressive £52,917.27 — enough to fund therapy courses for 42 veterans. The challenge also positively impacted employee wellbeing.
Daniel, a former Army Corporal who was medically discharged from the Yorkshire Regiment in 2017, has embarked on a journey marked by resilience and empowerment. As a Royal British Legion Ambassador and beneficiary, he initiated Legion Games, an online esports community exclusively for Royal British Legion members, boasting around 300 participants. This community serves as both a path to recovery and a robust support network. Daniel actively participates in RBL events and fundraisers, using his platform to inspire others. His narrative underscores the transformative potential of shifting from ‘disability’ to ‘ability,’ emphasising gaming as a source of camaraderie and mental well-being. Advocating for inclusivity in the esports community, Daniel promotes a broader message that everyone, regardless of background or challenges, can find their place in the gaming world.
He stresses the importance of balancing competition and immersion in gaming for positive mental well-being, highlighting effective communication as a crucial component. His ’positive mental attitude ‘(PMA) philosophy applies to both team sports and esports, emphasising teamwork, achievement and mutual support. Daniel acknowledges the need for effective time management in gaming to prevent it from becoming overwhelming, championing self-care practices such as physical fitness and healthy habits. Additionally, he underscores the gaming industry's responsibility to openly address mental health issues and engage meaningfully with their communities, transcending a profit-centric approach.
Daniel's story stands as a testament to the transformative power of inclusivity and the positive impact of gaming on mental well-being, offering hope and support to those facing challenges.
In February 2023, Daniel joined DXC through a partnership event between Walking With The Wounded and DXC, distinguishing himself among 15 participating veterans. Following the event, his CV was reviewed, leading to an interview and subsequent employment as a network architect in the Public Sector accounts for DXC. Daniel collaborates closely with various charities, including the Invictus Games, advocating for employer support for veterans and recognizing the mental health benefits of esports.
Veteran & Service Leaver Careers
DXC actively seeks service leavers who possess the qualities of innovation, thinking big with a bias for action, and a track record of delivering results, all on behalf of our valued customers. These principles resonate strongly with the men and women who have served our nation in the armed forces. We recognise that their experience in leadership roles is of immense value in our dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
In our commitment to assisting transitioning service leavers and veterans, we provide personalised, one-on-one support. DXC hold a deep appreciation for the military community, cherishing their attributes of loyalty, diversity and a strong work ethic.
We are dedicated to helping service leavers and veterans by offering a wide range of rewarding career opportunities. To achieve this, we foster partnerships with organisations that share our mission, such as Walking With The Wounded, the Armed Forces charity, Soldiers', Sailors', and Airmen's Families Association and others.
Central to our corporate ethos are values that emphasis doing the right thing and delivering excellence every day. We proactively seek to bring Armed Forces veterans into our team, recognising that their talent and experience are instrumental in our mission to provide mission-critical IT services that drive global progress.
Upholding the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant stands as a cornerstone of our commitment to serving personnel. By actively engaging with and supporting veterans, DXC not only benefit from their wealth of experience but also demonstrate our unwavering dedication to these individuals who have served their country.
Armed Forces Covenant
The primary responsibility of the government is the safeguarding of the nation. Our Armed Forces shoulder this vital duty on behalf of the government, often making personal sacrifices, confronting peril, and at times, enduring grave injuries or even loss of life in service.
Families, too, play a crucial role in bolstering the operational effectiveness of our Armed Forces. In turn, as a nation, we hold a moral duty toward the members of the Naval Service, the Army and the Royal Air Force, along with their families who deserve our admiration, support and equitable treatment.
Those who currently serve in the Armed Forces, be they regular or reserve personnel, and those who have served in the past, as well as their families, should not be disadvantaged in access to public and commercial services.
This responsibility extends across society, encompassing volunteer and charitable organisations, private enterprises and the actions of individuals who lend their support to the Armed Forces. Acknowledging the contributions of those who have fulfilled military obligations unites our nation and underscores the significance of their service. There is no greater demonstration of this commitment than upholding this Covenant.
