Kerry Kingi

Transitioning from the electronic security industry to IT was a bold and exciting leap. My journey began as a fire technician, progressed to maintenance manager at a hospital, and later as an electronic security technician. Driven by my desire to grow, I earned my electrical license and pursued an IT Diploma in Software Engineering to enhance my technical skills. Through the Rea program, I gained real-world IT experience, including insights into the software development lifecycle. I’m deeply grateful to Rea, the DXC Māori Pacific Peoples Program, and DXC for offering me a cadetship, which opened the door to my IT career.

Now at DXC Technology, I’m committed to growing as a developer and contributing to meaningful projects. With constant learning and upskilling, I’m inspired by the DXC Māori Pacific Peoples Program’s efforts to bring equity to Aotearoa’s IT industry. DXC’s work is empowering Māori and Pacific talent, and I’m proud to be part of this transformative movement. Mauri Ora!

Brody Sowry

As a child, I was always fascinated by technology and dreamed of working in the IT industry, believing it was something I could excel at while helping others. However, after leaving high school, I had to enter full-time work to support my whānau. My first job was cleaning floors, and over time, I worked my way up to better positions. Despite my progress, I always aspired for more. That’s when a friend introduced me to the Rea program, and I signed up immediately. The program equipped me with the skills needed to transition into IT while allowing me to continue working full-time and support my family.

Thanks to Rea, I secured my current role at DXC Technology as a tester, where I feel fulfilled and make a difference daily. I am incredibly grateful to the Rea program, the DXC Māori Pacific Peoples Program, and DXC for giving me the opportunity to join as a cadet and eventually progress into a full-time role. Every day, I learn something new and enjoy the work I do. I am proud to be part of an initiative that promotes equity in the IT industry by empowering Māori and Pacific talent in Aotearoa, and I look forward to seeing its continued growth and impact.

Our program partners

TupuToa

TupuToa seeks to ensure corporate Aotearoa is representative of our country, by developing and empowering our people and building the cultural capability of our partners.

TupuToa was borne from the need to see increased Māori and Pacific representation in leadership positions in the corporate sector. Māori and Pacific peoples make up a quarter of our population and yet are largely invisible in corporate New Zealand. This is more pronounced in corporate leadership and in the IT Sector.

The DXC partnership with TupuToa will provide internship and graduate opportunities for Māori and Pacific university students to join DXC.

Rea

In partnership with Rea, Microsoft and some of our DXC corporate and government agencies, DXC is working to address the under representation of Māori and Pacific peoples in the technology sector, where only 7% of the workforce is from Māori and Pacific peoples communities.

Rea provides DXC and our customers with a cohort of cadets who would like a career in the IT Sector and provide comprehensive life skills and training to set them up for success. Microsoft provide training and upskilling in their Business Applications, before DXC assigns the cadets to in-flight projects with mentors over a 12-week period. The cohort are paid during this cadetship while they train and gain experience. At the conclusion of the cadetship, DXC or our  customers offer full time employment to these new technology professionals.
