DXC Technology Launches Māori and Pacific Peoples Program in New Zealand to Build Business Partnerships, Increase Employment and Foster Cultural Awareness and Community Engagement

More than half of DXC’s next graduate intake will represent Māori and Pacific Peoples

Wellington, New Zealand, 21 November 2022 – DXC Technology (NYSE: DXC) a leading Fortune 500 global technology services company, today announced the launch of its Māori and Pacific Peoples Program, a strategic and actionable framework aimed at building business partnerships and employment, and fostering cultural awareness and community engagement with the Māori and Pacific peoples.

“This is an exciting initiative for DXC in New Zealand as it gives us an opportunity to demonstrate our ongoing commitment through a meaningful program that will support the Māori and Pacific Peoples self-determination and participation in the economy, create education pathways into jobs, boost employment numbers and increase spend in the Māori and Pacific community,” said Seelan Nayagam, President Asia Pacific, DXC Technology.

The Māori and Pacific Peoples Program was officially launched by the Hon. Aupito William Sio, Minister for Pacific Peoples at DXC’s office in Wellington today.

“We look forward to building a business ecosystem that empowers Māori and Pacific Peoples to innovate, establish new ventures and build on existing capabilities and capacity. By increasing the amount of time spent with Māori and Pacific Peoples, DXC will effectively be building a shared understanding of the value that Māori and Pacific businesses contribute to the New Zealand market, including their unique perspectives and cultures, said Nayagam.

With several large technology transformation programmes currently underway in New Zealand, there is approximately a 30% shortfall of technology staff to successfully service these transformations. This presents a significant opportunity for the Māori and Pacific community which today forms almost 30% of the population; yet only represents 7% of the IT sector workforce.

DXC understands the transformative role that technology plays in empowering communities and will therefore be creating new education and career opportunities in technology for the Māori and Pacific Peoples. This includes enabling access to technology across all education levels; providing opportunities for positive exposure to technology throughout primary and high school; providing access to support mechanisms for vocational and tertiary IT education programs and increasing the number of IT education and employment pathways available to Māori and Pacific Peoples.

The launch of DXC’s Māori and Pacific Peoples Program forms a part of DXC’s Social Impact Practice which aims to improve societal outcomes and increase diversity and inclusion through technology and innovation. Established in 2018 in Australia, the practice focuses on developing and implementing initiatives that make a sustainable impact to its people, customers, partners and the wider community.

It also builds on the successful DXC Dandelion Program which today provides an environment that supports and celebrates the talents and skills of neurodivergent individuals, such as those with Autism, ADHD or Dyslexia, and helps them build valuable skills to pursue a career in information technology. Following the success of the program in Australia and New Zealand, DXC is now launching the initiative across European and Asia Pacific countries. The United Kingdom will be first to launch, building on a 12-month pilot, with Bulgaria, Poland and the Philippines to follow.

“DXC is committed to the Māori and Pacific Peoples Program, and we are confident that it will have a positive impact on the Māori and Pacific peoples of New Zealand. We are currently working with our key customers and local partners including Rea and TupuToa and look forward to not only strengthening these existing partnerships, but building new ones to support this program,” added Nayagam.
