As the Beatles sang in Penny Lane: “On the corner is a banker with a motorcar, And little children laugh at him behind his back, And the banker never wears a mac in the pouring rain.” The lyrics suggests that in the past people could recognize a banker in the street — they were perceived to have a pin stripe suit, bowler hat, and quite a lot of money based on the fact they had a car (this was the 60s!).
So what perception does the public have about banks and building societies today? How does this affect our engagement with customers? What is the reality of where Building Societies are today with the use of technology, and how carefully applying technology can move us forward with engagement with members?
